Peterborough United’s players delivered few moments of quality at Burton Albion today (August 22).
Only another terrific goal from Marcus Maddison offered comfort as Posh went down 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium.
It was enough for him to share the man-of-the-match award.
Ben Alnwick: Made a couple of fine saves with his legs, but his spill led to Burton’s second goal. Over-hit far too many kicks 5
Tobi Adebayo-Rowling: A steady effort from a youngster who doesn’t look out of place defensively or offensively. Smith certain to replace him when fit though 6
Alex Davey: Some cultured moments, but he’s no left-back. Hard to play on the left when you’re so obviously right-footed 5
Ricardo Almeida Santos: He is getting found out on the deck defensively, but his super surge forward in the final minute should have led to an equaliser 5
Gaby Zakuani: Won some headers, but he’s getting turned on the floor too often. Horrible challenge led to a red card and team improved when he went off 4
Jermaine Anderson: He didn’t always pass or control the ball well, but he put in a terrific shift. He was robbed of a dramatic leveller by a terrible refereeing decision 6
Jack Payne: Struggled to get on the ball and when he did he often gave it away. Posh need a fully-focussed, motivated Payne 5
Michael Bostwick: His form has gone completely. Relinquished the captaincy today, but it made little difference. 5
Harry Anderson: Tried as hard as always, but his weakest display of the season. Substituted 5
Marcus Maddison: He can frustrate and thrill in equal measures. A quite brilliant goal got Posh back in the game, but his set-pieces were terrible 6
Souleymane Coulibaly: Started up front on his own and struggled because the service was so awful. Lively last half an hour and almost scored with an over-head kick 5
Jon Taylor: (for Harry Anderson, 63 mins).
Conor Washington: (for Bostwick, 63 mins)
Shaun Brisley: (for Adebayo-Rowling, 71 mins).
Dion-Curtis Henry: (not used)
Joe Gormley: (not used).
Lee Angol: (not used).
Kieran Sadlier: (not used).
