Emile Sinclair is determined to banish last season from his memory as quickly as possible.
The fleet-footed striker looked to have the Championship at his feet when he claimed a hat-trick against Hull, the team with one of the meanest defences in the division, at the end of September.
He ripped Hull apart with his pace and delivered three quality finishes to give Posh their first points of the season.
But then he didn’t score again...for anyone all season.
Sinclair was farmed out on loan to Barnsley and Doncaster after falling foul of Posh manager Darren Ferguson’s disciplinary code before Christmas.
The 25 year-old remains on the transfer list, but for the moment at least he is back at Posh hoping to make amends for the last campaign.
Sinclair said: “Last season wasn’t a good season.
“But they happen in football and I just have to put it to the back of my mind and start afresh in the new season.
“All I’m doing right now is focussing on giving my all on the pitch in every game.
“All the strikers have come back to fight for a place in the team and that’s all I am trying to do.
“I’ve scored a couple of goals and I’m slowly getting my sharpness back.”
Unless manager Ferguson throws in a curve ball and throws a youngster like Shaq McDonald into the fray (or he signs a new striker), Sinclair could be jousting with Tyrone Barnett and Nicky Ajose for a place in the starting line-up against Swindon on the first day of the League One season on August 3.
A quick poll on Twitter to @PTAlanSwann saw those Posh fans who responded vote marginally in favour of Sinclair over Barnett.
Ajose came third in the poll with youngsters McDonald and Jaanai Gordon also receiving nominations.
