Peterborough United have fought off interest from Premier League clubs to capture the signature of Luton Town attacker Lee Angol.
The 20-year-old signed for Posh yesterday (July 20) and arrives at the ABAX Stadium following a successful loan spell at Boreham Wood where he scored 31 league goals and collected a host of end of season awards.
Angol began his career at Spurs before signing for Wycombe in 2012, he only managed to make four apperances for the Chairboys then signed for Luton in 2014 but failed to break into the Hatters first team.
Angol said: “I am over the moon that the signing has been finalised. It has been a tough few weeks mentally to prepare myself, but I am happpy to get this deal over the line.
“Last year was a season that I will remember for the rest of my life. It doesn’t bother me to much that I didn’t get to make the Luton team becasue my experience at Boreham Wood will keep me in good stead.”
Premiership side Crystal Palace were reported to be interested in the 6ft 3in striker, but Angol is confident that Posh is the right place to further his career.
He added:“There are so many inspirations that have came from non-league and I hope that I can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Charlie Austin or Dwight Gayle. When I left Tottenham as a youngster I had to go down the leagues to find my feet again, but I think in the long run a step backwards can help because it can add another side to your game.”
