POSH REACTION: The sweetest feeling for Shaquile

Coulthirst scored within minutes of coming on as a second-half substitute in the 4-1 League One win at Colchester yessterday (April 16). It was his 17th League One appearance following a January transfer from Spurs - his only other Posh goal arrived in the 2-2 FA Cup draw with Premier League side West Brom at the Hawthorns.

The 21 year-old admitted he was relieved, but he also revealed that manager Graham Westley has been keeping his confidence high.

“The manager has always been taking the pressure off me,” Coulthirst stated. “Not scoring a League goal has been on my mind a bit. but the manager has always backed me and it was great to see the ball finally go into the back of the net.

“It wasn’t exactly a quality goal, but maybe I needed a bit of luck to get me going. I was delighted the goal helped us get three points.

“The manager just sent me on to effect the game and I’m glad I was able to do just that. He told me he wanted me to work as hard as Aaron Williams and to take my chance when it came. It worked perfectly.

“I’ve waited a long time to experience it, but it was the sweetest of feelings when the ball went over the line.

“We were hanging on a bit at times, but we always fancy ourselves on the counter-attack.

“The aim now is to win the final four games which is possible because there isn’t a League One team we can’t beat. My aim is to keep scoring.”

Coulthirst confirmed after yesterday’s game that the players were made aware of chairman Darragh MacAnthony’s critical comments about an under-perfoming squad last week.

“We all heard what the chairman said about us last week and it hit home, but we have stayed together as a group.”
