POSH LATEST: Westley believes current Peterborough United players can win promotion to the Championship

Peterborough United manager Graham Westley believes the players with the ability to take the club back to the Championship are already at the ABAX Stadium.

Westley is confident some of his young stars will be ‘adored’ by Posh fans in the near future, as soon as they learn how to cope with the demands of League One.

That day still seemed far away after last Saturday’s (March 12) 3-2 defeat at home to Port Vale when Posh led 2-0 at half-time and 2-1 with four minutes to go.

That result made it six defeats in the last seven League One matches for a team currently in freefall. Posh have now lost five home League matches in a row which equals an unwanted club record.

But Westley can be guaranteed to remain positive amid the most alarming of statistics.

“Some times you have to reach rock bottom before the improvement starts,” Westley stated. “And we might just be at that point now. It’s a shocking run of form we’re on, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and I remain confident a strong group of players will emerge from this run.

“I honestly believe we have players already at this club who will take Posh back to the Championship. We have some phenomenal talent at the club.

“We have players here who will be adored by the fans in the future.

“We just have to learn how to win in League One and then we will be up and running. Once we click as League One players, and as a team, we will take some stopping.

“I know fans don’t want to hear about players learning all the time, but it’s a fact that it’s happening with us right now.”
