POSH LATEST: Tyler misery as dream return to Peterborough United falls through

Tyler was line for a shock move back to a club he graced for 16 years and 486 appearances. Only legendary winger Tommy Robson has played more games for the club.

The 38 year-old has spent the last seven years at Luton since leaving Posh in 2009. He felt his loyalty towards ‘The Hatters’ would have allowed the move to go through.

“Luton told me they still need me as they only have one other senior keeper,” Tyler, who is out contract at the end of the season, said. “It’s understandable that Luton have to look after their own interests, but I was hoping they would see beyond that and let me leave.

“I’m gutted to be honest. I heard a potential return was possible when I watched Posh play Preston in the FA Cup, when Luton had a free week, and I was up for it straight away. I was going to come as cover for Ben Alnwick and I didn’t mind that at all. I tried to push Luton again today to make it happen, but they wouldn’t do it.

“I’m 38 now so I’m not going to have many more moves and it would have been perfect for me to finish my career where it all started and where I made so many great memories.

“I still live in the city and obviously I am still a big Posh fan. I’ll never say never and the loan window opens next Tuesday (February 8) but things change in football and I fear that Posh won’t want me. They could easily get someone else.

“In the meantime I’ll be professional and give my all to Luton.”

Tyler delivered a brilliant display for ‘The Hatters’ when they went down 2-0 at the ABAX Stadium in an FA Cup tie in December.

Tyler was left out of Luton’s starting line up for their 2-0 defeat at home to Notts County on Saturday (January 30). He’s not expected to play in tomorrow’s (February 2) League Two match against Yeovil at Kenilworth Road.

If Tyler had arrived at the ABAX Stadium, it’s likely teenage back-up Dion-Curtis Henry would have been allowed out on loan to gain match experience.
