Taylor’s 12-minute treble as a late substitute in the 5-1 win over Blackpool at the ABAX Stadium yesterday (May 8) - the first hat-trick of his career - took his tally for the campaign to 13 goals.

He finished the season as the club’s joint top scorer alongside Marcus Maddison, of the players still at Posh.

Taylor, whose 51 appearances this season is the most by a Posh player, said: “I always want to score goals and 13 is the most I’ve ever managed in a season. I’m happy with that, but I could have scored even more.

“I can look back at a few chances I’ve missed, but I’m happy to finish on a high with the first hat-trick of my career.

“I’ve been winding Shaq (Coulthirst) up about passing to me more often and thankfully he did for the hat-trick goal. It was exactly the same as my goal at Shrewsbury. I aim to go between the goalkeeper’s legs - they are very difficult shots to save.

“It’s been a bit up and down for me this season and I hope to do even better next season.

“Grant McCann gets my vote for the next Posh manager. He likes to get the ball down and play which suits me and the team.

“We need to do better as a team next season though. We finished 13th this season which isn’t good enough for this club.

“The season really fell away badly straight after we’d performed so well against West Brom in the FA Cup.”

Taylor scored 11 goals in League One and in both FA Cup matches against West Brom. Maddison also scored 11 League One goals as did rookie striker Lee Angol.
