Eight more players have been placed on the transfer list subject to the requirements of the next first-team manager, while full-back Kgosi Ntlhe will leave the ABAX Stadium as soon as a compensation fee can be agreed.

Defenders Gaby Zakuani, Shaun Brisley and Andrew Fox and strikers Souleymane Coulibaly, Kyle Vassell and Jack Friend have already left the ABAX Stadium after their contracts came to an end.

As per club policy, those players entering the last year of their contracts will be placed on the transfer list, but, if the new manager wants these players to have an extension to their contracts, then negotiations will take place.

Players out of contract at the end of next season are Ben Alnwick, Harry Anderson, Dion-Curtis Henry, Erhun Oztumer, Jack Payne, Ricardo Santos, Michael Smith and Jon Taylor.

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “I would like to personally wish all those players who have been released by the football club well, but I would especially like to thank Gaby Zakuani, who has been a magnificent servant both on and off the pitch to Peterborough United Football Club. I would like to wish him every success in furthering his career. I am sure he will have plenty of options.”

Zakuani (29) made 253 appearances for Posh in two spells, the 13th-highest of the club’s Football League era. He made his debut for the club at Northampton in September 2007 and helped the club to two promotions from League One.

Brisley joined Posh from Macclesfield in January 2012, but failed to ever command a regular first-team place. He made 93 Posh appearances, but only one this season. He spent much of the season out on loan at League Two clubs Northampton and Leyton Orient.

One-time Spurs striker Coulibaly was also given a one-year contract by Posh before the start of this season. He flattered to deceive, scoring five goals in 32 appearances, most of them as a substitute, before being sent on loan to Newport County.

Vassell was signed from non-league Bishop’s Stortford in November 2013 and scored five goals in the opening eight matches of last season before his form tailed off. He scored six goals in 36 Posh appearances in total and finished the most recent season on loan at Shrewsbury.

Left-back Ntlhe (22), a full South Africa international, is a graduate of the Posh Academy, but failed to kick on after a promising start to his senior career. He made 89 first-team appearances, scoring five goals.

Posh are seeking a full-time manager following the dismissal of Graham Westley last month. Grant McCann, who finished the season in caretaker-charge, is currently the 1/6 favourite to take the job with Sky Bet.
