Posh moved to the top of the table after an impressive 3-0 win at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday. That was a fifth straight win for Posh who have have scored 13 goals and conceded just two in that run.

But Ferguson insists no-one at the club is getting carried away. He will be mindful of the last time went Posh went top of the table at the start of November as they promptly lost four of their next five League One games.

Posh face two of the bottom three, Wigan and Burton, in their next three games, but Ferguson is demanding standards mustn’t drop and attentions mustn’t waver no matter the opposition.

He believes Wigan Athletic present a big threat at the Weston Homes Stadium tomorrow (February 27, 3pm).

“I’ve watched Wigan’s last two games and they were good,” Ferguson said. “They were unlucky to lose to Lincoln before they secured a big win at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday.

“They played very aggressively in both matches. They get the ball from front to back quickly, but then play some good stuff in the opposition half.

“I honestly think they will come and have a got at us. They have some good players and they have experienced players. I am under no illusions how tough this game will be.

“For us it’s all about keeping our standards high. They’ve been very good for the most part in the last few weeks and certainly our quality has started to show. Some of the goals we’ve scored in recent games have been very high quality passing moves.

“We are in a good place right now, but no-one is getting carried away. We’re preparing properly for matches and we are working hard between games to make sure the players are ready physically and mentally for the next challenge.

“We have got where we are by working hard and by making the necessary sacrifices. We’ve hit form at a good time, but it’s important we keep that form going for a bit longer yet.

“If we don’t play well, and we won’t in every game, we must be prepared to dig out a result. There must be no letting up and we will see where it takes us.”

Posh report no fresh injury concerns - they are due to be tested for Covid tomorrow (Friday) - and goalkeeper Dan Gyollai should be back on the substitutes’ bench after a 10-day period of self-isolation.
