CONFIRMED: Summer signing leaves Posh for League One rivals

Peterborough United have allowed summer signing Ryan Broom move to League One basement club Burton Albion on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24 year-old versatile midfielder only moved to Posh from Cheltenham for a fee in the region of £300k in the summer. He was earmarked to play as a ‘number 10,’ but the subsequent signing of Sammie Szmodics ruined those plans.

Broom has started just five League One games for Posh and none since the 2-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon on December 5. He has also been employed as a wing-back, but Posh boss Darren Ferguson clearly sees him as surplus to requirements for now. Broom wasn’t even in the matchday squad for Saturday’s defeat at Shrewsbury.

The number of games in a packed schedule and the fact that Posh have lost their attacking spark in recent games will make this a shock move in the eyes of many.

Broom would have been expected to start for Posh in tomorrow’s Papa John’s Trophy quarter-final at Tranmere (February 2).

Broom could make his debut for Burton in Saturday’s home match with Hull City.

Shrewsbury Town were also interested in Broom.
