Posh boss rams home an important message to his table-topping players ahead of a tough trip to Oxford

‘We haven’t won anything yet,’ that’s the important message Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson rammed home to his players this morning (March 1).

The Posh camp is cock-a-hoop after six straight wins sent them four points clear at the top of League One. Posh are now a short-priced 6/5 with Sky Bet to win the title and they are a miserly 2/5 to win promotion.

But Ferguson is determined not to let over-confidence trip his players up. They have a tough contest at play-off contenders Oxford United tomorrow (March 2, 7pm).

“It’s taken a lot of hard work and some unusual preparation to get us to where we are now,” Ferguson added. “But I told the players this morning that this is not to time to let up. I challenged them to keep improving and to put their foot down again.

“The players have been great in difficult circumstances and my staff have been outstanding, but we have achieved nothing as yet. I hope we will achieve our aim of promotion, but there is such a long way to go and some very tough matches ahead starting at Oxford.

“We do look fresh rather than tired and that goes for the whole squad. We had a practice match against Ipswich last week and Louis Reed and Frazer Blake-Tracy for instance were fantastic.

“We are in a good place. We are doing certain things very well. Our ability to score a goal and then another one in quick succession has been very encouraging as is the fact we cam come back late and win matches. That shows we are in good shape physically.

“Oxford are a a very good side though, They have been on an incredible run and they’ve got themselves right into contention which I expected. They are a handful up front, especially out wide where they have plenty of pace and skill.

“It’s a tough test for us, but we are looking forward to games at the moment.”

Posh have a couple of niggles, but nothing serious. The entire squad tested negative for Covid today.
