Posh conceded a goal in the fifth minute when Andre Brooks took advantage of a poor defensive header to rifle home into the roof of the net on the half-volley.

But Posh more than matched their hosts for long periods. Roddy McGlinchey tested the home goalkeeper with a decent strike before the break and after it Ricky-Jade Jones twice came close to scorring.

Posh goalkeeper Will Larkin made a couple of smart saves, but he was beaten late on by a Daniel Jebbison header from a corner as the Blades booked their fifth round date at home to Bristol City.

McGlinchey produced a superb goal-line block to deny the hosts a third goal as Posh pushed players forward.
