After 16 League One games without a goal Szmodics scored twice after top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris had opened the scoring in the early stages.
But there were several other very impressive displays as Posh maintained their bid for promotion.
Ratings key: 10-Perfect, 9-Outstanding, 8-Very Good, 7-Good, 6-Okay, 5-Poor, 4 Very poor
1.
CHRISTY PYM: He's a reliable last line of defence, not that he had much to do here against a team who rarely breached an impressive defence. Kicked the ball well. 7
2.
FRANKIE KENT: An outstanding defensive display from the young centre-back who left the pitch for 10 minutes in the first half to have a facial wound attended to. Won numerous headers in his own penalty area and kept pinching the ball off the toes of forwards on the edge of the box 9
3.
MARK BEEVERS: Some though he might have a lack of pace exposed when switched to the left of a back three, but he's been rock solid in the main. Terrific inside his own penalty area when the timing of his tackles was exemplary and his positioning for crosses was spot on 8.5
4.
NIALL MASON: Nathan Thompson's ability to bring the ball out defence was missed, but his replacement was excellent in every other aspect of his position in the middle of the back three. Blocked shots, but most impressively he advanced to nick no end of balls played into feet. His best display in a Posh shirt 8.5
