But who remembers these 20 players, all of whom played for Posh in the Championship, something club stars like Britt Assombalonga and Jack Marriott never managed?

DANNY KEARNS: Posh years: 2011-2014, Posh apps: 37, Posh goals: 0. Posh have always been keen on Irish signings and this tricky wide player looked the part at times. Posh took him from Dundalk, but he’d been at West Ham before that so hopes were high of a successful recruit from across the water. He made 21 of his 37 Posh appearances in the successful Championship season of 2011-12, mostly as a substitute , but he quickly fell out of favour the following season and was sent out on loan to non-league York City. Kearns also went on loan to Rotherham and Chesterfield before Carlisle signed him on a free transfer, but after just three starts for the Cumbrian club he was back in Irish football. Kearns is now at Linfield after spells at Glenavon, Sligo Rovers and Limerick. Photo: Midlands

EXODUS GEOHAGHON: Posh years 2009-10, Posh apps 19, Posh goals 1. Has there even been a more unlikely Championship football than Exodus Geohaghon? This massive central defender followed manager Mak Cooper to Championship side Posh from non-league Kettering Town. Few expected him to do well, but then Cooper started picking him ahead of Ryan Bennett so surely there must have been talent there? Sadly not second tier talent, although Geohaghon (right) had a Premier League standard long throw. Geohaghon did score the winning goal in the only game Posh won in Cooper’s brief spell in charge, a 2-1 success over Watford, but he played his best football when canny boss Jim Gannon deployed him as a defensive midfield shield. Geohaghon did go onto play in the Football League for Rotherham, Port Vale and Shrewsbury, but he’s since had 18 different non-league moves, the latest of which was to Gresley Town last season. He left there in February. Photo: Peterborough Evening Telegraph

GRANT BASEY: Posh years 2011-2012, Posh apps 13, Posh goals 1. Posh signed him on a free transfer from Barnet during the League One promotion season of 2010-11 and he took advantage of Charlie Lee's red card in the play-off semi-final first leg at MK Dons to hold his place at left-back in the second leg and the final (he's pictured in action at Old Trafford). He played the first four matches of the following season before he was allowed to leave on loan to Wycombe which turned into a permanent signing. Basey knocked around non-league football for a while, but is now a development coach at Charlton Athletic after a spell as the club's kitman. Photo: Midlands

EMILE SINCLAIR: Posh years 2011-2013, Posh apps 49, Posh goals 13. There were a few raised eyebrows when Darren Ferguson signed this pacy striker from Macclesfield to play in the Championship. But Sinclair scored twice in his second game, a 2-1 win over Burnley, and claimed a creditable 10 goals in his first season at London Road. His Posh highlight was undoubtedly the stunning hat-trick he netted in a 3-1 win at Hull City the following season as Fergie's men ended a run of seven straight defeats at the start of the season with a shock win. Sinclair is pictured completing his hat-trick. They were the only goals he scored that season and the last goals he scored for Posh before a £100k sale to Crawley. Went on to play for Cobblers and last heard of playing for Liversedge in the North East Counties League Photo: Midlands
