Posh will receive a £100k from Coventry City under the terms of Matt Godden’s sale to St Andrew’s last summer, if the Sky Blues win promotion to the Championship this season.

And Posh will also be due £125k from Portsmouth if they go up to the second tier as part of the transfer that took defender Christian Burgess to Fratton Park in 2015.

Posh have already earned £10k from the loan move of midfielder Mark O’Hara to Motherwell thanks to the Scottish team’s third place finish in their Premier League.

If, as expected, League One final placings for the 2019-20 season are determined on a points per game average Coventry will be crowned champions and Portsmouth will finish fifth and contest a play-off semi-final against Oxford.

Burgess, who was signed for Posh by current first-team manager Darren Ferguson from Hartlepool in 2014, has become a star performer at Pompey and his presence was sorely missed when Ivan Toney tore the South coast club apart in the last match either side played on March 7.

Posh reportedly received a £150k fee for Burgess who joined Pompey when they were in League Two.

The 28 year-old falls out of contract at Fratton Park this summer and is expected to leave on a free transfer.

Godden has been a star of Coventry’s outstanding campaign netting 15 goals (14 in League One) in 33 matches including back-to-back hat-tricks over the festive period. He also scored in four successive games before lockdown.

Posh received, what at the time looked an inflated fee, of £400k for Godden and replaced him with club record signing Mo Eisa for around £1.3m.

Posh striker Ivan Toney is League One’s leading scorer this season with 24 goals, nine more than anyone else.
