Peterborough United transfer window latest from the chairman as Birmingham City are now out of the race to sign Marcus Maddison
Peterbororough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has delivered an update on the two biggest potential transfer window stories from London Road.
MacAnthony was busy on his Twitter account last night (January 28) after Posh had beaten Accrington 2-0 in a League One match at the Crown Ground.
He re-iterated the club’s stance on star striker Ivan Toney and revealed that Birmingham City are no longer in the race to sign wantaway forward Marcus Maddison, but another Championship club is now battling with Charlton Athletic for the 26 year-old’s services.
MacAnthony said: “Barry Fry (Posh director of football) tried with Dong (Birmingham chief executive Xuandong Ren), but alas couldn’t get an agreement. Down to two clubs for him (Maddison) now, but not Birmingham.”
When asked about Toney’s likely presence at the big League One match at Ipswich on Saturday (February 1), MacAnthony replied: “100% he will be.”
The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday (January 31) and Posh have consistently stated they will hang on to 20-goal Toney despite interest from numerous clubs from higher divisions, incuding Scottish giants Celtic according to one report yesterday.
