MacAnthony said: “Barry Fry (Posh director of football) tried with Dong (Birmingham chief executive Xuandong Ren), but alas couldn’t get an agreement. Down to two clubs for him (Maddison) now, but not Birmingham.”

When asked about Toney’s likely presence at the big League One match at Ipswich on Saturday (February 1), MacAnthony replied: “100% he will be.”

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday (January 31) and Posh have consistently stated they will hang on to 20-goal Toney despite interest from numerous clubs from higher divisions, incuding Scottish giants Celtic according to one report yesterday.
