Peterborough United race through at Newmarket in the FA Youth Cup after a huge scare as first-teamer scores a hat-trick

Peterborough United were within 60 seconds of crashing out of the FA Youth Cup at the first round stage before racing to a 7-2 extra-time success at Newmarket Town last night (November 4).

The hosts, backed by most in a large 300-strong crowd, twice led and it needed an injury time penalty from Flynn Clarke to take the contest into an extra 30 minutes.

Clarke, who has first-team experience this season, went on to complete a hat-trick with Adler Nascimento scoring twice. Roddy McGlinchey and Dave Bodie also netted.

Posh manager Matthew Etherington said: “We are in the next round and that is the most important thing, but we didn’t play well tonight and that was disappointing. We didn’t move the ball quickly enough, but having said that, Newmarket hit the bar and scored with pretty much their only attacks.”

Posh travel to Altrincham in the second round.
