Peterborough United primed to deliver their best form against Swindon

Ferguson has been happy with his team’s performances in their last two outings against strong Fleetwood Town and Sunderland sides.

And he’s worked the players hard in training this week in an attempt to find the marginal gains which will deliver an improved set of results.

Ferguson is set to stick with the 3-4-2-1 formation and starting line-up which went down 1-0 at Sunderland last Saturday.

“There’s been nothing wrong with our form over the last two matches,” Ferguson insisted. “The only time we let ourselves down was at Accrington in the first game.

“There are things we can do better, but it’s not a problem of the formation. We have come up against teams also playing wing-backs and when that happens you can cancel each other out. Swindon haven’t used wing-backs this season, but it wouildn’t surprise me if they did on Saturday.

“It shouldn’t affect us. Last season we played against wing-backs at Wimbledon for example and still created lots of chances. We have different types of wing-back. Joe Ward and Ryan Broom are good going forward, while Dan Butler is a more natural defender.

“It has been the case that we haven’t been getting enough crosses into the penalty area and we must remedy that. We need to be prepared to take players on and find the space to deliver a cross.

“We’ve been working on that and we’ve been working hard with the forwards on their finishing. We have to be better in front of goal than we showed at Sunderland.

“It should be a decent game on Saturday. Swindon lost the forwards that took them up last season, but they’ve recruited well.

“They play good football, they try and play through the lines and they have dangerous forwards with pace as well as very good wide players

“They’ve started the season well, at home at least, but if we play to our best it’s a game we can win. “I sense a big performance is coming.”

Posh are chasing a seventh straight Football League home win on Saturday, something they haven’t achieved since 1984. The first Posh goal against Swindon would be the club’s 4,000th in the Football League.
