The details will stay private, but it’s less than the 50% Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony had originally hoped to secure.

But MacAnthony insists he’s still proud of his players for acting in a way that will help the club. Posh manager Darren Ferguson has taken a 50% pay deferral, while key officials behind the scenes who have not been furloughed have also volunteered to defer a considerable amount of pay.

MacAnthony was even forced to reject an offer from a 17 year-old pro to defer 50% of his pay.

“That was a cracking gesture from a 17 year-old who has only just turned professional,” MacAnthony stated. “But he’s not on a lot of money so I turned his request down. But it’s brilliant to see a young man putting his football club before money. He will have a great future.

“I’m proud of all of the players. They’ve come together as a unit to agree a deal that gives the club a nice break.

“The deal isn’t all that I wanted. It isn’t perfect, but they are still clearly trying to support the club as have my CEO, my Academy manager and other key staff who are still working.”
