Peterborough United missed out on a top player because of a shock FA Cup defeat

Peterborough United’s 2014 FA Cup shock at the hands of Kidderminster Harriers wrecked a Posh deal to sign the non-league club’s best player.

Co-owner Darragh MacAnthony revealed in a recent episode of his ‘Hard Truth’ podcase that Posh were due to sign winger Joe Lolley after the original third tie at Harriers’ Aggborough base.

MacAnthony said: “The deal was done with Kidderminster and the player and he was due to travel back with us after the game to sign.

“But as we drew the game, Kidderminster wanted him to play in the replay and by now other clubs were alerted to Joe’s availability.

“Joe was brilliant in the replay, scored a great goal and signed for Huddersfield within days. That 0-0 draw at Kidderminster cost us a very good player,”

Lolley now plays for Championship side Nottingham Forest.
