Peterborough United midfielder remains a wanted man, but only on loan

Peterborough United midfielder George Cooper remains a transfer target of League One rivals Plymouth Argyle, but only if they can take him back to Home Park on loan.

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony confirmed Cooper is available for transfer following the August arrivals of Ryan Broom and Reece Brown to the Weston Homes Stadium.

The 23 year-old spent a successful time on loan at Plymouth last season when he helped to promotion from League Two.

But Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe told the Plymouth Herald: “We have said all along we can’t afford George Cooper. I have actually had a missed call off Barry Fry so I do need to call him back.

“We love George – we have said that numerous times. I can’t keep saying it, my family will be thinking I love him more than I love them, so I need to be careful!

“Again, it’s over to them. We can’t just go ‘Yeah, there’s this, there’s that’. If he becomes available for loan we would probably look at it.”

Lowe added that he had a ‘huge respect’ for Fry, as well as Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson and MacAnthony.

But he also said: “The valuations of players nowadays in this pandemic is a lot, lot less. It’s over to someone else, it’s not over to me.

“If someone phones and says they can do a (loan) deal on a certain amount then we might look at it, but other than that we can’t afford to pay any fees.”
