The Robins are at the Weston Homes Stadium for a League One match tomorrow (October 3, 3pm) and Ferguson has warned his players of the attacking threat they will face.

Posh have made a sluggish start to the 2020-21 League One season with one win and two defeats from their three matches so far. Posh start tomorrow’s match in 19th place.

“I’ve watched a few games this season, mainly of the opposition we are about to face, and Swindon have been the best team I’ve seen,” Ferguson said.

“They are very fluent, very good on the ball, expansive and they have threats everywhere. They have good wingers and players who will score goals.

“If we keep giving the ball back to them we will be in for a long afternoon.

“But if we do pass the ball well we will cause them problems. When we get things right we are a very hard team to play against and we’ve worked hard on improving our attacking play this week.

“I’ve been reasonably happy with the last two performances. There are things we can do better in the attacking third, like our decision-making, but we are not far off our best.

“I don’t look at the league table at this stage of a season. Lots of teams start the season full of enthusiasm and energy and then it becomes more difficult when injuries deplete a squad.

“Clearly we wish we had more points, but we’ve only had three games.”

That won’t be the case when Posh visit neighbours Northampton Town next Saturday (October 10). Key midfielder Jack Taylor will miss that game as will teenage forward Flynn Clarke after their call-ups to the Ireland Under 21 and Scotland under 19 squads respectively.

“You have to have six players on international duty to postpone a game so there wouldn’t be many call-offs this season,” Ferguson added.

“It’s just one of those things you will have to deal with this season. Reece Brown and Ethan Hamilton are ready to play now so we have good cover for Jack. I’m actually surprised Jack hasn’t been called up to the full Ireland squad.”
