Posh head to Wigan Athletic tonight (October 20, 7pm kick off) chasing a fourth consecutive League One win and a first away from home against the Latics in the club’s Football League history.

Ferguson is content with his side’s form, but he believes they can get better.

“We certainly need to manage games better when we’re ahead,” Ferguson said. “And we need to improve out set piece execution. Mark Robson (assistant manager) does a lot of work on set plays and yet we haven’t score from one yet this season.

“Having said that we’ve been solid and professional and the first-half against Oxford at the weekend was the most fluent we’ve been in possession.

“We’re in a good place, but we’re under no illusions about the difficulties we will face in two tough away matches this week (Posh are also at second-placed Hull City on Saturday).

“We’re facing two good footballing sides. Wigan have lost some Championship players since last season, but they’ve come down a division and they still have quality players for this level. Just look at their forwards. They have Garner, Keane, Naismith and Solomon-Otabor. They are good players for League One.

“We will need to be as solid as we were at Northampton in our last away game and play with the same attacking quality we showed on Saturday, It’s a big pitch at Wigan which should help the spectacle and I’m looking forward to another quality match between two good sides.”

Ferguson is expected to name the same starting line-up that beat Oxford on Saturday.

Posh have played nine times at Wigan in the Football League drawing four and losing the other five. Posh have scored just six goals in those nine matches.
