McCann was a playing hero at Posh under Ferguson’s management, starring in the unforgettable League One promotion campaign of 2010-11.

But the master wants to upset his star pupil at the KCOM Stadium as fourth-placed Posh travel to the current League One leaders who are managed by McCann.

Ferguson has yet to beat McCann in a management meeting. McCann’s Doncaster beat Ferguson’s Posh in a controversial League One clash in February, 2019, while the other two meetings, when McCann was managing Posh and Ferguson was at Doncaster, were drawn 0-0 and 1-1.

Both managers have their team in great form ahead of tomorrow’s clash. Hull have won six of their opening seven League One matches following a traumatic relegation from the Championship under McCann last season, while Posh have won four League One games on the spin.

“Grant was a fantastic player for me,” Ferguson stated. “And I’m not surprised he went on to become a manager and I’m also not surprised he’s done well at it. He’s got the better of me as a manager so far, but we haven’t met that often. It’s certainly a game I want to win.

“I know from my own experience how upsetting relegations can be. They can happen, but it’s important you start the following season well and Grant has done that.

“Fair play to Hull for sticking with him and he recruited very well in the summer.

“They’ve had some good games to play, but I said at the start of the season they would be strong challengers for promotion and that will still be the case no matter what the result on Saturday.”
