Peterborough United legend’s career was full of goals, glory, medals and promotions

Peterborough United great George Boyd left the club with little fanfare last week, a victim of a big wage and League One’s new salary cap restrictions.

But the Peterborough Telegraph and Posh couldn’t let him go without a fitting tribute so we asked club photographer Joe Dent for his favourite Boyd pictures.

Boyd played 322 times for Posh and scored 76 goals.

That places him 12th in the all-time appearance list in the club’s Football League era and seventh in the goalscorers’ list.

Keith Alexander signed Boyd signed for Posh from National League side Stevenage in January, 2007 for what was then a non-league record transfer fee of £265k.

Boyd, who is now 34, moved on loan to Notingham Forest in March, 2010 and then on loan to Hull City in February, 2013. He signed for The Tigers on a free transfer later that year and went on to play in the Premier League for them and for Burnley.

He signed for Sheffield Wednesday in July, 2017 and then returned to Posh on a free transfer two years later.

Boyd started just 20 games in his second spell at Posh and scored his only goal in his final appearance, a 4-2 win over Fulham Under 21s in the EFL Trophy.
