This date is yet to be confirmed by the EFL who are under less pressure than normal to release them early as the opening matches will all be played behind closed doors.

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony tweeted that August 20 might be the release date, but the Peterborough Telegraph believes the EFL have indicated the following day is more likely.

The League One season is due to start on September 12 with a Carabao Cup tie scheduled for September 5. A Leasing.com Trophy tie could also take place on September 8/9.

Posh are keen to play teams with small fanbases in the early stages of the season so the financial impact of having no paying audience is lessened.
