Executive Suite season ticket holders were invited to the ground to watch the 2-0 League One win over Oxford United on TV screens. Current UK Goverment guidelines permit this, but don’t allow the same fans to watch a match taking place 50 yards away from the grandstands!

Just under 50 fans took Posh up on the offer of a pre-match meal followed by some match action.

Posh chief executive officer Bob Symns said: “The club made sure that the stringent measures required to host an event like this were put in place and social distancing was implemented throughout the hours that the supporters were in attendance.

“This pilot event was designed so that we could invite our Executive Suite members back to their normal matchday room to watch the game on the tvs and big screen within the facility and of course see some familiar faces that we know they have been desperately missing during this unprecedented time.

“As a football club, the thing we want more than anything is our fans back into the stadium and we are doing everything we possibly can to make that happen. I met two of our local MPs on Friday, Paul Bristow and Shailesh Vara, and explained to them how we can ensure the safety of our supporters would not be compromised and I hope they went away knowing the importance of our supporters to the club and what the club means to the community as a whole.

“While those discussions continue to be had at Government level, we as a football club will look into the possibility of hosting our Executive Suite members at the next Saturday fixture at the Weston Homes Stadium and build on the success of the pilot. Finally, I would like to thank those supporters that were in attendance on Saturday for following the protocols and we hope they enjoyed the day.”

Posh are at home to Burton Albion (October 27) and Shrewsbury Town (October 31) next week.
