Promotion rivals Hull City, Doncaster Rovers and Charlton Athletic were all beaten in League One action today. Posh, whose scheduled game at Blackpool was postponed, remain third, but are behind second-placed Hull on goal difference having played two fewer games.

Grant McCann’s Hull were beaten by a harsh penalty decision at home to Russell Martin’s MK Dons 10 minutes from time in a battle between two Posh old boys.

Sunderland are up to sixth after their 4-1 win, but are five points behind Posh having played a game more. Leaders Lincoln and fourth-placed Portsmouth also didn’t play today. Charlton are down to seventh after losing 3-2 at home to Gillingham for whom former Posh loanee Kyle Dempsey scored the winner for Steve Evans’ side.

Lincoln host play-off chasing Accrington Stanley tomorrow (February 14, 6pm). A win would take Lincoln six points clear at the top. Oxford host lowly Wigan tomorrow and a win would lift Karl Robinson’s side up to seventh.

If Lincoln lose tomorrow Posh would go top on Tuesday (February 16) with a two-goal win at Gillingham as the Imps do not have a midweek game and Hull are not in action until visiting Wigan on Wednesday.

Doncaster host Accrington on Wednesday. Portsmouth are at managerless Bristol Rovers on Tuesday.

At the other end of the table ex-Posh defender Michael Bostwick scored as Burton Albion won 2-0 at Northampton in a battle between the bottom two. There are now just four points between the bottom seven in the table.

Bostwick cracked home a 10-yard free-kick after the Cobblers ‘keeper had picked up a backpass.

In the Championship former Posh loanee Josh Knight scored an 87th minute winner as Wycombe fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Huddersfield. The Chairboys are now a mere 10 points from safety.

In League Two Marcus Maddison played an hour of Bolton’s 1-0 win over Stevenage before he was replaced by another former Posh player Lloyd Isgrove.
