MacAnthony is confident Posh will be in far better shape than the majority of League One clubs when football re-starts, possibly in the middle of September.

MacAnthony was talking to Posh fans as he helped unveil the new home strip for the 2020-21 season last night (July 5).

He said: “Next season could be the best chance we’ve had to get promoted to the Championship and actually stay there for a few years. It could be the best five years in the club’s history.

“The club is financially healthy because of the ownership. We are like most football clubs in that we have financial issues to resolve and lots of bills to pay, but our ownership will ensure we cope better than most clubs at our level.

“We will also have 85% of the playing squad that would probably have won automatic promotion this season still at the club. Not many clubs will be able to say that.”

Posh have never spent more that two successive seasons in the second tier of English football.
