Peterborough United co-owner says ‘God help League One when the Posh front three click’, Dembele’s replacement with the ‘wow’ factor already lined up, Szmodics’ bright future and PT’s 4/10 player marks were spot on at Crewe

Peterborough United co-owner Darragh MacAnthony believes the club’s formidable front three will be unplayable in League One once they hit their stride.

Jonson Clarke-Harris (6), Siriki Dembele (5) and Sammie Szmodics (1) have scored 12 League One goals between them in 12 matches so far this season, but MacAnthony insists there is much more to come.

MacAnthony revealed on his popular ‘Hard Truth’ podcast that Posh already have a replacement for Dembele lined up should the 24 year-old leave the club at the end of the season and he praised Szmodics for an ‘unbelievable’ work ethic.

“When the front three get on the same page they will be unplayable in League One,” MacAnthony said. “The penny dropped with Siriki last season when he realised he couldn’t be pigeon-holed as a winger. The biggest clubs don’t play with wingers and since he became more felixible he’s been top class. I was really disappointed he didn’t win the player-of-the-month prize for October.

“We’ve already identified his replacement should he leave us for £15 millionor whatever and he’s four years younger than Siriki. He’s not the finished product just yet, but he has the ‘wow’ factor. He’s our sort of signing, a big talent who we can polish up.

“Sammie can go as high and as far as he wants in football. He’s only 25, he has time on his side. He’s nowhere near his standards this season. but his work ethic has been unbelievable. He’s short of goals, but once he gets one he’ll go on a run and get 10 or 12.

“Sammie would be unbelievable for us in the Championship if we went up.

“Siriki, Sammie and Jonno have yet to fire together, but when they do God help the rest of the division,

“The whole team didn’t play well at Crewe last weekend. The local paper was right to give most of them 4/10.

“I know who Steve Bruce (Newcastle manager) was watching at that game and he didn’t perform.”
