Peterborough United chase goal number 4,000 and a best home winning streak for 36 years
The first Posh goal will be the club’s 4,000th in the Football League and victory would seal a seventh straight home win in the League for the first time since 1984. Posh went on to record nine home wins a row back then.
When Posh beat Chester 1-0 on the final day of the 1983-84 season to seal a seventh place finish in Division Four, few would have expected the team to win the first eight Fourth Division games of the season under the management of John Wile, a period hardly associated with much success.

It didn’t lead to anything though as Posh went on to finish 11th.
It’s been 643 games since Posh scored their 3000th Football League goal, a strike from Danny Crow that completed a 3-1 win at Bury in April, 2006.
The free-scoring team of the 1960s ensured Posh reached 1,000 goals relatively quickly. Richie Barker scored the milestone goal in a 5-2 win at Cambridge United in April, 1972.
That remains the quickest 1,000-goal run as it was 782 games before Worrell Sterling scored goal number 2,000 at Crewe in April, 1989 and a further 781 games before Crow scored the 3,000th goal.
