Peterborough United to chase glory on two fronts and a possible starting line-up

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson is confident his squad are good enough to seek glory on two fronts.

Ferguson’s men have stormed to the top of League One after impressive victories against Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers made it seven wins from eight unbeaten matches.

Posh now turn their attentions to the FA Cup and a first round tie at League One rivals Oxford United on Saturday.

Ferguson will rest some senior players at the Kassam Stadium, but insists he wants a good run in the competition.

Star summer signing Jonson Clarke-Harris is most likely to be omitted as will others who have played all 11 League One matches in a gruelling run of fixtures.

Defenders Mark Beevers, Dan Butler, Frankie Kent and goalkeeper Christy Pym, as well as Clarke-Harris, have started all the club’s league matches this season.

“It’s the ideal time to freshen the team up,” Ferguson said.“Clarke-Harris is one I will probably leave out. It’s important I keep the whole squad involved. The ones who haven’t played much have still shown a very good attitude and they deserve a chance.

“That’s not to say I’m not interested in an FA Cup run because I am. I have a very good squad and the players I do pick will be hungry to show me what we can do.

“Oxford away is not the draw we wanted. That’s not to say I’m worried about playing them, but they are a very good side and I’d rather have played a lesser team at home.”

Ryan Broom, Ethan Hamilton, Mo Eisa, Frazer Blake-Tracy and Louis Reed are among those who can expect to play at Oxford.

Star man Siriki Dembele is another who might be rested.

He’s taken some rough treatment from opponents this season, but responded with a brilliant hat-trick in last Saturday’s 5-1 win over Shrewsbury.
