Peterborough United chairman believes club owners could be sued if the League One season is voided

MacAnthony was responding to an article in today’s Times which suggested owners of League One and Two clubs are coming around to the idea that the ‘least-worst option’ would be to end the 2019-20 football season now.

The article also suggested a points-per-game average would be used to finalise League positions and that play-offs could still take place to decide promotion. That would be devastating for Posh who would drop from sixth to seventh and miss out.

But MacAnthony dismissed the report as ‘noise’ and then promised to sue any owners who refuse to fulfil their remaining fixtures.

MacAnthony tweeted a response to the Peterborough Telegraph who had predicted he wouldn’t be happy about the Times article.

MacAnthony said: “I just got a call from our CEO (Bob Symns) who was in on EFL League One meeting today. Ignore all white noise/agendas/newspaper articles in my opinion. Football will be back & season will get finished or owners who refuse to fulfill fixtures will be getting their asses sued.”

Posh have nine League One matches remaining, including five at home against teams in the bottom half of the division. They haven’t dropped a single home points against a team currently in the bottom half.
