It is widely expected the League One and League Two seasons – which were suspended on March 13 – will be cancelled, with clubs struggling to see how all fixtures can be completed by the EFL’s deadline of July 31.

The EFL Board are meeting today (May 15) to discuss their next steps, with clubs set to be consulted over their thoughts before the end of the week. There will then be a vote on how the season is decided next week.

Posh co-owner Dr Jason Neale this morning said: “I’m calling on the EFL to give us some definitive guidance please. As owners of Petreborough United we are planning for every scenario from resuming the season in June to football being cancelled until 2021-2022.”

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “Meetings galore have been taking place. The EFL board are now meeting on Wednesday and then the clubs will have their say before the end of the week.

“Other than that no-one knows what is happening, but it can’t be allowed to drag on indefinitely.”

Posh are adamant they want the season to finish whenever it is safe to do so. Posh are currently sixth in League One, but just three points outside the autoamtic promotion places with nine matches remaining.
