Peterborough United boss is after a repeat performance as Posh get ready to take on a couple of former players

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has challenged his players to repeat their October heroics in November’s less-crowded League One schedule.

Ferguson would appear to be a shoo-in for the October manager of the month prize for League One after Posh won six of seven unbeaten games in the month to shoot to the top of the table.

There are only four League One matches scheduled for November starting with a tricky trip to mid-table Bristol Rovers tomorrow (November 3, 7pm).

“We get a breather from League One matches after tomorrow which is good,” Ferguson stated. “To pick up 19 points and not collect a single injury was as much as we could have hoped for in October.

“It’s nice to be top, but it’s not the most important thing for me. I have targets from blocks of games and 22 points from 10 games means we are ahead of our expected pace.

“We’ve improved our away form and we’ve improved the way we react when we fall behind, but the players all agree with me that there is so much more in the tank.

“A good start was vital as we just don’t know how the season will pan out. It’s important we stay around the top all season.

“It’s not that easy though. Every team we have played has given us problems. I’d say the most complete performance so far was at Northampton when we were totally dominant and I was pleased with the defensive effort at Wigan, but we do need to start games better. For some reason we have usually been much better in the second half of games. I can’t really have any complaints though.

“It’s a tough game for us tomorrow. Bristol recruited quite well in the summer. They have good experience and their front players are a handful so we will have to defend well.

“But we also believe we can hurt them. They have played a back three and wing backs all season with the odd tweak in midfield so we know what to expect.”

Defender Nathan Thompson will return to the Posh squad tomorrow, but is not a certainty to win his place back from Niall Mason.

Rovers have former Posh pair Jack Baldwin and Erhun Oztumer in their squad, although the latter has only been used off the substitutes’ bench so far this season.

It’s also a first return to the club that sold him to Posh in the summer for striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.
