TalkSPORT are reporting the deal consists of £6.5 million up front plus considerable add ons for a player who scored 26 goals in a shortened 2019-20 season.

Brentford were the club who tried hard to sign Toney last January, but Posh resisted in the hope they would keep their star man by winning promotion to the Championship.

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony admitted last week that a deal had been struck to sell Toney to an unnamed club two weeks ago, but the player had yet to agree personal terms.

The Peterborough Telegraph contacted MacAnthony today, but he declined to comment. He later tweeted that ‘nothing is true until you hear it from our club’.

Toney is with Posh at St George’s Park this week and scored in a practice match between two Posh teams at the weekend.

Posh signed Toney (24) from Newcastle United for £350,000 two years ago. The Magpies are entitled to a significant portion of any profit.

Celtic. Rangers. Derby and Nottingham Forest are other clubs to have reportedly shown interest in Toney.
