Peterborough United and Plymouth Argyle are discussing the transfer of George Cooper to Home Park

League One rivals Plymouth Argyle have opened negotiations for the transfer of attacking midfielder George Cooper from Peterborough United.

Cooper was transfer listed by Posh last week after the signings of midfielders Reece Brown and Ryan Broom. He spent last season on loan at Plymouth, helping them to win promotion from League Two.

And Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe told the Plymouth Herald today (August 27) he was talking to Posh over some sort of compromise deal for the 23 year-old. Posh want a fee for a player who cost a reported £300k in January 2018. Plymouth would rather take him on loan for the season again.

Lowe said: “We have got our figures and they have certainly got theirs. Currently, George Cooper is a Peterborough United footballer.

“Are we trying to do a deal? Potentially, yeah. But we just need to wait and see where that gets us.

“The discussions are still ongoing and they take a long time these things don’t they? They will want to win, I want to win, but I think at some point you have got to come to an agreement where it’s mutually beneficial for the player’s sake as well.

“We are still in discussions and we will keep doing that until the right deal fits both parties.”

Cooper is expected to be left out of the Posh playing squad for the forthcoming season.
