Midfielder Hamilton (21) became the third Posh capture of the summer after goalkeeper Dan Gyollai and defender Ronnie Edwards when signing a two-year deal today (August 13). The Edinburgh-born player was released by Manchester Unitred this summer after five years at Old Trafford.

Hamilton has experience of League One football thanks to loan spells with Rochdale, Southend and Bolton and he’s a big fan of the way Posh play.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me,” Hamilton said. “I’m confident I will develop and improve at Posh.

“I learnt a lot as a footballer and a person by being at Manchester United and I’ve also learnt plenty by playing in League One.

“I feel I know the division and I know about Posh from playing against them. They play an attacking style which should be perfect for me.

“I enjoyed being out on loan. At the time it was just what I needed, but I want a permanent home now so I’m pleased to be at Posh and I can’t wait to get started.

“I enjoy both the attacking and defensive sides of the midfield role and hopefully I can chip in with a few goals.”

Posh boss Darren Ferguson was delighted to sign a player he’d been monitoring for the last 12 months,

Ferguson said: “I have followed Ethan’s progress for a year or so. He has had a number of loan spells in this league and he is someone I have liked for a while.

“He is a good size, a lovely footballer, left-footed and he will fit in really well. We enquired about getting him on-loan previously, but something happened at Manchester United and it didn’t materialise, so it is great to get it done now. He was a free transfer and I think he will be a good signing for us.”

Hamilton has scored six goals in 44 League One appearances for three struggling clubs.

Posh are still seeking another central midfielder and have previously declared an interest Reece Brown, who was at the Weston Homes Stadium last season on loan from Huddersfield.
