Nichols helps to embarrass Leeds United during a weekend when ex-Posh players made plenty of headlines for red cards, goals and own goals plus there was a personal attack on Marcus Maddison

Former Peterborough United striker Tom Nichols was part of the Crawley Town side who humiliated Leeds United 3-0 in the FA Cup today (January 10).

Nichols was credited with an assist for the second goal.

And there were plenty of other Posh old boys in the news over the weekend.

Russell Martin was sent off by referee Jonathan Moss before extra time in an FA Cup tie between Burnley and MK Dons yesterday.

MK Dons boss Martin, whose team visit Posh in League One next Saturday, was unhappy with the time added on by Moss at the end of 90 minutes. Burnley equalised in the 95th minute and went on to win the third round tie on penalties.

Goalkeeper Joe Day made his Bristol Rovers debut in a 3-2 third round defeat at home to Sheffield United. Day was unfortunate to concede an own goal five minutes into his debut, but went on to make some fine saves. Jack Baldwin and Erhun Oztumer also started for Rovers.

George Moncur scored with a fine volley as Luton beat Reading 1-0 and Josh Knight claimed his first Wycombe goal in a 4-1 win over Preston.

Marcus Maddison appears to have upset Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer who accused the maverick of pulling out of a tackle during Friday night’s 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Accrington Stanley in a League One clash. Bowyer said: ‘he’s done if he continues to jump out of tackles’.

Steve Evans’ Gillingham have now lost four games in a row after slipping to a 1-0 defeat at home to bottom club Burton Albion.

In League Two Shaun Brisley, who once scored for Posh at Wembley, was on target for Port Vale in a 3-0 win over Grimsby.
