Goodiwn informed last season’s players - some of whom were expected to leave the club anyway - via a WhatsAp message.

It read: “Evening lads. We’ve been in the job now for just over 24 hours and the response we’ve had from players we know has been unbelievable.

“This has put me in a difficult position early on and we’ve decided as a club we’re going to have nobody back from the original squad this season.

“Now I know a lot weren’t coming back anyway and I’m not going to be a liked man and maybe wasn’t at all, but this is a decision we’ve taken and one we’re standing by.

“Wish you all the best in whatvever you do next.”

Goodwin replaced Steve Wilson as manager with Kev Ward appointed as assistant manager. Goodwin was most recently assistant manager of Ilkeston Town, but has managed at Star’s level in the past.

Star finished 14th in the United Counties Premier Division last season.
