LIVE BLOG: Sheffield United vs Posh

Key Events

  • 6-2 Sheffield United FT
  • Posh thumped by rampant Sheffield United side
  • Before today, Sheffield United had just one goal and two points in the league
  • Posh went in level at the break after Marriott’s first goal in a year
  • Posh conceded two goals in three minutes twice in the second half
  • Late JCH penalty was nothing more than a consolation
  • Posh slip to 23rd in the league

The wingbacks have been virtually non-existent in a defensive capacity today. Fleck heds down to Ndiaye on the edge of the Posh box, Gibbs-White drifts out to the right into a acre of free space. Gets the pass and lashes right into the top corner of the nearpost.

Sheffield United just bringing the pace of this game down a notch, they have a lead they feel they can keep. Probably won’t do them harm just keeping it for a but as Posh have looked able to exploit their defence when they come forward.

Dembele currently down receiving treatment, looks like he got a stray arm to the face.

Before Posh defend a corner. Taylor replaces Norburn

Burrows reads the short one well and Norburn gets out to Osborn to block his long range follow up.

Free-kick right in the edge. Looks like a penalty on the replay as Butler pulls down Sharp from behind.

What a shame that was. Posh should have been 2-1 in front and in a matter of moments were 3-1 down. These harsh lessons about the Championship are getting tiresome. Sheffield United back to running riot.

Nearly 4! Posh stretched as they try to recover from that double blow, a ball in behind gives Gibbs-White a chance to run at Butler, he taps it passed him and is in one-on-one with Pym from a tight angle. Pym covers his angles though and makes the save.

Knightmare few minutes for Kent. Posh lose the ball in the left of their own half. Ndiaye sets Sharp running on the right, he gets into the box, Kent comes out of meet him but proves no obstacle to the frontman, he rolls a ball across the face of the box that is tapped in at the nearpost by Fleck.

That is rubbish from Kent. Has the ball under no pressure well inside his own half, gifts the ball right so Sharp, he knocks it to Fleck in behind Kent and he pokes and effort wide of the onrushing Pym and it dribbles into the net.

2-1 Sheffield United

Posh really should be infront. Burrows causing trouble again, he finds Dembele on the edge of the box this time. His shot is deflected off Fleck right into the path of Marriott. His first shot is saved by Foderingham’s legs, he gets to the rebound too but Foderingham gets an arm out from that shot, when it looked like Marriott had more time to take it around the keeper when he was on the ground. Burrows then throws himself at a loose ball, thinks he’s when a penalty when he ends up on the floor but is booked for a dive.

First save of the half is from Foderingham. Dembele nearly puts Marriott through again but the pass is cut out, Burrows picks up on the edge of the box and curls an effort at goal, well saved.

No changes from Posh, I’m a little surprised.

What a frantic half, chance after chance for Sheff U at one stage. Posh will need to see more of the ball second half if they are going to come away with something here but what a moment for Marriott, who did so much good work to get his goal.

Just before the break, Sheff U put in a wonderful cross from a free-kick just over halfway and they find 2 men queuing at the backpost. Looks like Norwood who gets the contact and will be disappointed he’s deflected that wide of the post. Posh all in all still a bit lucky to go in level, Sheff U have won everything that has gone into the Posh box.
