LIVE: PETERBOROUGH UNITED v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE: Posh bow out of the Carabao Cup in humbling fashion against lower level opposition
Posh have fallen at the first hurdle in each of the last four seasons and two of them were at home to lower division opposition, including last year when Cheltenham won 1-0 at the Weston Homes Stadium.
New signing Joel Randall is expected to start the game after a promising debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 Championship defeat at Luton Town.

Randall feels he has his eye in now, another effort from range, this time around 25 yards. Easy save.

A bit end to end at the moment, Posh throwing men forward and to their credit Plymouth are standing up to it without needing to commit all men back. It’s a decent spectacle but a clear sense that the game is over and only one side is forcing the issue.

Hardie selling Edwards a dummy, then Kent. Shoots at goal from just outside the box, trying to get his hattrick but Tomlinson is the man to deny him. Law picks up and skips into the box but his touch away from Burrows is too heavy and Posh are able to clear.

Free kick 35 yards out, won by Kanu backing into his man and getting pushed to the floor. Tamely passed into the hands of Cooper from Grant.

Phwoar Randall has a shot on him. Out of nowhere, he cuts in from the left and hits a dipping swerving effort at goal, Cooper is taken by surprise but is able to beat it away. He is one a small number to come away with some credit tonight. Posh seeing more of the ball but Plymouth still sitting in well.

Nearly a first Posh goal for Randall. Good tenacious work from Ward on the right, as it has been since he came on. He floats a cross that Cooper misjudges and flaps at. It falls to Randall at the backpost but there are too many bodies between him and the goal and his effort is blocked before the line. Tomlinson’s shot on the follow-up is also blocked.

Glorious chance goes begging to four. Camara has much more time than he thinks just inside the penalty area but panics and takes it first time and shanks well over. He was found by Grant’s pass after he made a marauding run right down the middle, it looked like he was going to knock it to Jephcott to score but he took Posh by surprise and played it to Camara arriving late.
