Joey Barton says Fleetwood 'carry no fear' as they gear up for Peterborough United clash

Joey Barton is a big admirer of Peterborough United and the quality they possess, but he insists his Fleetwood Town team are travelling with 'no fear' ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash between the sides at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Posh's first home league game of the campaign, which will be played behind closed doors, sees them come up against an in-form Fleetwood, with the Trawlermen having won all four of their matches in all competitions so far this season.

They also beat Peterborough home and away in league one last season, and although Barton believes Darren Ferguson's side will be at the top end of the table come the business end of the season, he has full confidence in his side's ability to get the better of them.

"Peterborough are a very, very good side and were very unlucky last year not to make the play-offs," said Barton.

"I know we were one of the few sides that beat them when they were on a good run of form but luckily, we beat them home and away last season.

“But we know we’ll have to be as good as we can be on Saturday to take maximum points.

"We know it is going to be tight, we know it is a tough fixture but we will go into it like we do with most games, we expect to beat everybody we play against.

"We know what a good side Darren has got there and what good players they have, even though they have lost the best striker in the division from last season in Ivan Toney.

"They still have a lot of quality and have brought in Johnson Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers, he is a handful in league one and we will have to take good care of him."

Asked if he was expecting a reaction from Posh following their surprise opening day defeat at Accrington Stanley, the Fleetwood boss said: "I expect Peterborough to be very good

"I know the quality they have got running through their team and the way they set up.

"The way they recruit they are always strategic in what they do, and Darren has been around league one for a long period of time and he knows how to get a team out of this division.

"We know we are in for a tough encounter, and there is not a player in our building who will be thinking Peterborough away from is going to be an easy fixture.

"But also, they lost 2-0 to Accrington, they've drawn 3-3 with Burton and lost to Cheltenham, so we will be carrying no fear into the game.

"We are going to London Road to win a game of football.

"It will be a good encounter between two of the top sides in league one in my opinion, and I am looking forward to it.

"It will be another good test for some of our players to see how good they are."
