They would also need Lincoln to lose at home to Accrington Stanley and Hull City to fail to beat Russell Martin’s improving MK Dons side at the KCOM Stadium.

Posh could get another chance to reach the summit next Tuesday (February 16) as they travel to Gillingham while Lincoln are without a game and Hull have a tricky game at relegation battlers Wigan.

Third-placed Posh last hit the top on November 3.

Back-to-back home wins persuaded Sky Bet to trim the odds of a League One title win for Posh from 8/1 to 6/1. They are fourth favourites behind Hull (9/4), Lincoln (5/2) and Pompey (10/3).

Posh are just 6/4 to win promotion and 2/5 to finish in the top six.

Jonson Clarke-Harris is now 11/4 second favourite to win the League One golden boot behind Plymouth’s Luke Jephcott (5/2). Jephcott has now scored 16 League One goals this season, one more than Clarke-Harris.

Posh and Blackpool are both 6/4 to win Saturday’s match. The draw is 23/10.
