If Posh win at current leaders Hull by two goals they would move above the Tigers.

Posh would then need second-placed Ipswich to draw at third-placed Lincoln City to jump from fourth to first.

Grant McCann’s record as Posh manager was statistically average.

The Northern Irishman won 29 of his 78 League One matches in charge at London Road, whle losing 28.

He had a strong record as a caretaker-boss though winning three of four unbeaten games.

McCann led Posh to a disappointing 11th place finish in his one full season as manager in 2016-17.

McCann has recruited wisely following Hull’s relegation from the Championship last season.

Dangerous forward Mallik Wilks (from Barnsley), double League One promotion-winner Richie Smallwood (Blackburn), one-time Posh target Greg Docherty (Rangers) and full-back Lewie Coyle (Fleetwood) were among those to arrive to bolster a squad that already boasted fine talents like young star Keane Lewis-Potter, Northern Ireland international striker Josh Magennis and former Posh full-back Callum Elder.

Elder was outstanding at London Road in a 21-game loan spell from Leicester City when Graham Westley was overseeing a terrific run of Posh form in 2015. The Aussie left-back scored one goal, in a 4-0 home win over Darren Ferguson’s Doncaster Rovers.

Wilks and Lewis-Potter are Hull’s joint-top scorers with three League One goals apiece. The former was rested from Tuesday night’s win over Wimbledon.

FORM GUIDE

McCann admitted his side were way off the pace despite returning to the top of League One with a 1-0 Tuesday night win at home to Wimbledon.

The Tigers have won six of their seven League One games so far this season, suffering their only defeat at Fleetwood (4-1).

Hull have enjoyed an easy-looking start to the season though having beaten Gillingham, Plymouth, Crewe, Rochdale and Northampton as well as the Dons.

Hull have won all three home games in League One this season 1-0.
