How another tough week for Peterborough United unfolded and what will happen next

But the end is now in sight.

Here is a look back at the latest developments and a look forward to what happens next.

Wednesday, May 20

The EFL Board met to discuss proposals on how to settle the impasse among League One clubs as to how the 2019-20 season should end. The meeting broke up at 3.50pm.

Thursday, May 21 (AM)

Posh director of football Barry Fry expressed irritated as 18 hours after the Board meeting finished no communication from the EFL had been received.

Thursday May 21 (PM).

The EFL issued a statement at 2pm saying League One clubs can now vote either to continue or curtail the season. If they vote to curtail, an unweighted points-per-game average will be used to determine final league positions which would leave Posh outside the play-off places.

Thursday May 21 (evening)

Fry launched a blistering attack on the EFL and claims Posh have been ‘cheated.’ It’s clear, after asking for some creative thinking, the EFL have ignored a proposal to extend the play-offs to eight teams.

Friday, May 22

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony was surprisingly conciliatory during his weekly podcast and insisted he has not given up hope of changing a few minds ahead of the decisive vote. He called for transparent financial implications of continuing and curtailing the current season to be sent to all clubs before the vote.

Saturday, May 23

A report in the Daily Mail suggests Championship clubs have an effective veto on any decision made by League One or League Two clubs.

Tuesday, May 26

Clubs had to submit any comments on the proposed EFL plans before 5pm. Tranmere Rovers, who will be relegated under PPG, submit a long proposal which includes a request for no relegations to be enforced.

Wednesday, May 27

The EFL Board are meeting again to discuss comments made by clubs on the proposals.

Monday, June 1

All 71 EFL clubs will vote on whether or not to amend the League regulations. If it’s a yes, a further vote will take place among League One clubs on whether to continue or to curtail the season. In both cases a simple 51% majority is required.
