Happy Peterborough United chief says his players have set a stylish attacking template for the rest of the League One season

Peterborough United chief Darragh MacAnthony insists his team have set the template for the rest of the season with their performance in the 4-1 League One win over Rochdale at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday (December 12).

A much-changed line-up including teenagers Harrison Burrows and Flynn Clarke claimed a decisive win which moved Posh up a place to fourth.

MacAnthony said: “That was much more like it. It’s amazing what a bit of youthful exuberance can do for a team’s confidence and style of play. I really enjoyed the game and seeing so many fans there.

“It was great to see so many Academy players involved, playing so well and creating goals. Win or lose, I want to see us play on the front foot, play quick, incisive football and try and score goals. We had more shots on goals, delivered more crosses and saw more final third entries than in any other game this season.

“That’s the template for the rest of the season now. If we keep trying to play like that me and my partners will be delighted no matter where it takes us.

“I was happy for Harrison, Flynn and Idris Kanu. It was a big day for them. It won’t always be like this for them. Young players will be inconsistent, but as long as they give it everything they’ve got we’ll be happy.

“It was also great to see Sammie Szmodics come on for 30 minutes after the disappointment of not starting and showing what he can do.”

Posh are at MK Dons for a League One match tomorrow (December 15, 7.45pm).
