Gillingham vs Peterborough United: Live Blog as Posh begin EFL Trophy defence

Posh have looked more dangerous in this half.

Great back to front move. Mothersille gets it in the middle of the Gills half, finds DOB and sets off the the middle, DOB goes wide to Hayes who fires into the box, only a great sliding tackle from Giles prevents a tap-in.

Gillingham doing well on the wings still, Fernandez caught out there and that is not where he wants to be. Nevitt finds Nolan who swings in a cross but Bilokapic springs off his line well.

Posh break quickly, Hayes recieved a cross-field pass, takes a touch and gets into the box and shoots from a tight angle, pushed away.

Gbode was convinced he should have had one when he got wrong side of Sparkes but just looks a tangle to legs as he tries to go round the Posh man.

Posh nearly extended their lead with the final kick of the half.

CCC with an excellent run from the middle of the pitch, he slides in Jones but his shot is saved by an oncoming Ashby-Hammond

Dack starts a bust up after being outmuscled but DOB.

He grabs the Posh man and pulls him back before squaring up to him.

The players all come together and when it clams down, he books Dornelly, I think mistakenly and Dack aswell.

Just like there, Posh break away again. Odoh does well on the left and cuts back for DOB. He takes a touch, beats his marker and then shoots wildly into the stands.

Should have done better.

Posh can not get any kind of control in the game. They have good moments but can’t seem to get on top on midfield and dictate things.

Gillingham now win a corner as Dornelly blocks Clarke’s cross.

They play it all the way into the box and Gbode fires in from the edge of the box, Bilokapic pushes his strong effort away.

Quick feet from Hayes and he then gets brought down by a Williams sliding challenge. Should really have been a yellow.

Sparkes presented with a great crossing chance when Webster falls over right in front of him, he has plenty of time to dink a ball to the backpost but CCC just isn’t tall enough to get there despite his best efforts.
