Zakuani said: “I’ve been helping them since a friend of mine, Andrew Killingsworth took over the club. I’ve just been helping him on how things are run etc.

“I’ve not been involved in any coaching yet, just watched videos of the last few games and had input about off the pitch affairs.”

Killingsworth is the boss of successful Peterborough-based business Yours Clothing. The company once sponsored the back of the Posh first-team shirts.

Zakuan recently announced his retirement from professional football after 506 senior appearances in a 17 year-career with Orient, Fulham, Posh, Northampton, Gillingham, Gree side Kelloni and Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 34 year-old centre-back was a star of two Posh promotions from League One in 2008-09 and 2010-11 during a London Road career which encompassed 253 games and nine goals in two spells.

Zakuani runs soccer schools near his London home and is currently working as a match summariser for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
