England Under 21 chief Adrian Boothroyd watched Posh beat Ipswich Town at Portman Road recently and, while Posh don’t have anyone ready for that standard, they do have players who could interest the younger age groups.

Flynn Clarke has been watched by England chiefs. The 18 year-old has been in a Scotland Under 19 squad, but hasn’t yet played for them so he could still represent the country of his birth. He also qualifies to play for Ireland.

Ricky-Jade Jones (18), Harrison Burrows (18) and Ronnie Edwards (17) are also close to England call-ups. Edwards faces six-to-eight weeks on the sidelines because of a thigh injury.

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “My old Posh skipper Andy Edwards is part of the England youth set-up and he loves Ronnie Edwards.

“I hear England fancy Flynn, but whether or not they can get him is another matter. They also like the look of Ricky and Harrison.”

Clarke and Edwards made their Football League debuts this season. Burrows and Jones have been regular members of the first-team squad for a couple of seasons.
